Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! Ephesians 1:7ff
Freedom is anything but cheap. My nephew is proving that as he serves in the Air Force in Iraq. I think of him often and of his mother and father. The freedom I have in Christ is anything but cheap. The Place of the Skull became an altar for the Lamb of God to be sacrificed so I could be abundantly free. Not just barely free but rejection free, Penalty free, punishment free… God had my name on his mind when he died. He wanted me to be free.
I watched on the Discovery Channel as the story of the wounded eagle unfolded. Its wing had been broken and the doctors had carefully worked to repair the break. Healing had happend and it was time for him to be released back where it belonged – not in a cage but soaring in the heights. It was soaring that he brought the most glory to God for that is how God made him. The release was exilerating. His wings began to flap and as healer let go of the eagle’s feet you could feel the great wings pulsating through the air as he pushed his way toward the heights. Now free he could stretch out his wings and allow the currents to carry him away.
I listened to a group of graduating Fourth Graders at McLaurin Elementary sing. It would be the last thing they would do before they took on being a Fifth Grader. They were leaving the comfort of seven years of being at the school. These are the words that they sang.
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I can see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly.
Thanks to the sacrifice of Christ the prison bars have been unlocked. The doors are all open. If I choose to stay in the prison it is not because of circumstances or some person that I can blame. I am free. And not only that ABUNDANTLY FREE…and that is unblievable!
